Lost In the Woods
This photo set is inspired by pictures of social media personality, Jay Versace; but with a twist. He posted a set of pictures of himself in a field, and his aura exuded happiness and being carefree, yet his eyes seemed dead and lifeless. I think that is how most black people spend their days; portraying someone that is happy while hiding the part of themselves that is lost. That's a common taboo in the black community, hiding pain and putting on a smile. So I set out to convey my thoughts and capture them. The model in the photos you see is Jaren Stephens, a photographer, model and good friend of mine. These pictures scream the truth of what most of us, including myself, may feel on the inside; and have become masters of hiding. The feeling of loneliness, emptiness, solitude and ultimately depression and anxiety.
