Solidarity March
During the summer of 2018, a Georgia Southern University student was subjectified to being referred to as a racial slur by her new roommate. In short, the roommate was referring her new roommate as not too n***erish when talking about her to a third party. When she mistakenly sent it to the person she was referring to, she attempted to correct herself and say she meant to type the word “triggerish” and blamed the mistake on siri. The NPHC Organization on GSU’s campus and other students that shared a common sense of outrage took to the streets to hold a solidarity march to shine light on the topic of racially charged behavior, specifically the use of the “N-Word”. I was able to document this moment in Georgia Southern’s history while working for the school’s newspaper. The most difficult part about witnessing this first hand is that I could only be the eyes for the public and not the voice for those that needed it the most.
